What is CBD

CBD (or cannabidiol) is an active, naturally-produced compound found in the cannabis plant- which is also referred to as marijuana or hemp.

There are over 80 cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant, but CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, which gets you “high”) are the more popular compounds, as they are the most abundant of all the cannabinoids. Learn more about cannabinoids here!

CBD is non-psychoactive, which means that when ingested you won’t feel any of the high you would with THC. Also, CBD oil typically contains very little THC (like, 0.3% or less- the legal amount) which isn’t enough to get you high, even if you drank the entire bottle of CBD.

CBD’s effectiveness is currently being confirmed by dozens of clinical trials in the US for FDA-approved medications. For example, the FDA just approved Epidolex– containing CBD- for previously uncontrollable pediatric seizures.

There are many reasons for many people, under many different circumstances, to be taking CBD. However, for women especially, CBD can offer very specific and very helpful benefits when added to a daily routine.

Health Benefits for Women Using CBD

The latest research in the last 10 years has shown CBD oils to be extremely effective in treating a variety of women’s health issues, such as period pain, PMS, anxiety, autoimmune diseases, and breast cancer. CBD oils even help women get beautiful and healthy hair and skin. Millions of women are turning to CBD oils to help them live happier, healthier lives.

Relief of PMS and Period Symptoms

Women who suffer from PMS or painful periods know how awful symptoms can get, including cramps, heavy bleeding, irritability, headaches, and fatigue. CBD can help treat multiple symptoms of PMS, including both physical and emotional symptoms. The pain-relieving and inflammation-fighting qualities of CBD oils can help reduce the severity of these symptoms. CBD oils can also promote relaxation, improve mood, and regulate sleep patterns.

Anxiety Relief

While both women and men suffer from anxiety, women are twice as likely to suffer from anxiety than men. Many people who suffer from anxiety use prescription drugs to minimize their symptoms; however, those drugs can have a number of unpleasant side effects and can be habit-forming.

CBD oil is an alternative treatment for anxiety relief that is not habit-forming. CBD works similarly to SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), the prescription drugs that are most often used to treat depression and anxiety. CBD oil works by encouraging action in the brain’s serotonin receptors, which helps improve mood.

Autoimmune Disease Management

One in five adults have an autoimmune disease, and women make up 75 percent of this group. The autoimmune diseases that women suffer from most include type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis. The common symptom of these diseases is inflammation.

Because CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory, it’s a great option for treating autoimmune diseases with no side effects. Research has also shown that CBD can help suppress the body’s production of cytokines, which helps alter the immune system response.

Breast Cancer Relief

When battling breast cancer, the side effects from chemotherapy can be brutal on the body. CBD can help counteract the effects of chemotherapy. Exciting new research is being done showing that CBD can actually kill breast cancer cells while keeping healthy cells intact, making CBD an excellent supplemental treatment option.

Healthy Hair and Skin

Believe it or not, CBD oils can promote beautiful and healthy hair and skin. The anti-inflammatory qualities of CBD calm irritated sebaceous glands, which helps reduce acne breakouts. CBD also promotes keratin production, keeping hair soft, strong, and healthy.

Menstrual Pain

From bloating and headaches to severe back pain and cramping, each woman has a different experience with their monthly visit from Aunt Flow. During this “time of the month”, finding natural remedies to help ease discomfort and improve your way of life is often a challenge. However, with the help of CBD oil, more women are finding relief from their period-related symptoms. But how?

Recent studies have shown a direct relationship between menstrual pain and acute inflammation, leading many health experts to recommend anti-inflammatory agents to help ease period-related symptoms. Because CBD naturally mediates the body’s inflammatory response, women may experience more moderate periods with reduced pain and inflammation.

Menopause

As time goes by, our bodies naturally begin to change. When women reach a certain stage in their lives, they enter what is known as menopause. Menopause is a time where women’s bodies begin to vary in the production of estrogen and progesterone — two of the most important hormones in the female body. While some women do not have any trouble with symptoms of menopause, others experience a much more uncomfortable transition that can take a toll on their overall health and wellness. So how, exactly, can CBD oil help to ease these symptoms for a more comfortable transition?

One of the most common symptoms of menopause is fatigue. As women age, their hormone levels can become imbalanced, making it difficult to fall and stay asleep. CBD oil naturally supports the body and the mind in finding rest. It does this by reducing daily anxieties and stressors, thus easing the mind and promoting deeper sleep over a sustained period of time.

Another common symptom of menopause is what is commonly known as “hot flashes”, which are described as a sudden sensation of heat in the face or chest. These uncomfortable episodes are also caused by a hormonal imbalance and can sometimes last for 11 years or more. While some women are shelling out for estrogen-based hormone therapies, more and more have started to turn to the natural assistance of CBD to help with their menopause symptoms.

CBD naturally activates and regulates the endocannabinoid system, which plays a key role in balancing your body’s hormones. This balancing act can help alleviate common symptoms of menopause and improve the quality of life for many women who are searching for some extra support during these transitional periods.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

In the days before a woman’s monthly cycle, some women experience uncomfortable symptoms that indicate that their period is about to begin. While these changes are a natural part of life, some women find themselves searching for natural ways to help manage the symptoms and create a more comfortable experience. This is where CBD comes in.

Two of the most common symptoms of PMS include mood swings and an increased desire for sweet treats, both of which CBD oil can help regulate. By naturally stimulating the endocannabinoid system, CBD helps create homeostasis within your body, thus balancing serotonin levels and promoting a happier, healthier, and more positive, mood.

This regained sense of balance may also help reduce stress eating and alleviate PMS-induced cravings so that you can maintain a healthy weight. A true win-win situation!
